Two girls disappear. Police recruit Paul Chartier joins a secret unit tracking sex offenders. After a botched operation, Chartier single-handedly pursues the perpetrators, frustrated by legal restrictions… He presents Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922). I know it should be called “if you can”…. and I think that would work too… but I decided to go in that direction… it’s still not written. The film is based on a true story – I have no idea what happened in the 90s… and from what I understand it takes a lot of creative liberties… who did what to whom… who survived and who didn’t… and I assume the main character (police/gendarmerie) is a composite of many characters into one – of course I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. , the film may be long (2.5 hours) but it never really is. Well, maybe at the beginning during the wedding… I’ve been there, done that and I knew it. The Greeks believe similarly – and so do the Italians… is that necessary for the story? I’m not saying it isn’t… but maybe I’m missing something. The suspense part is really well done… you feel for the main character… a lot of things go wrong… he has the right eye, the right “nose”; … but will he manage to convince the others? Many departments are almost working against each other… well said and done… still lacks the x factor to get to the top… as much praise as it got… and as good as it is… lacks the final push… maybe a little more charisma… more tension throughout… and so on.
